Indianapolis USA 14-year-old teenaged phenom Colton Bettis will run the Must See Racing event this Saturday at Owosso (MI) Speedway in the #26 AP Driver Development / LSI Racing 410 pavement winged sprint car for Sam Pierce Racing. The team will bring the same car they ran the last time they raced at Owosso in 2018, winning the event with SPR team principal Aaron Pierce piloting the machine.
Florida-based Bettis returns to the Midwest after his 410 sprint car debut last month with Team SPR at Must See Racing event at Sandusky Speedway where he set quick time and delivered a masterful display of talent early in the feature event, charging from the sixth starting position to third, only to experience a throttle linkage issue while battling for second place and ending his evening early.
“We definitely had the fastest car there and definitely would’ve battled for the win had we not had the throttle issue. I really enjoyed the speed of the 410 on the half mile for my first time” said Bettis. “I am looking forward to Owosso because it looks a lot like 417 Speedway down here [Florida] where I have raced before.”
Colton’s SPR teammate, Kaylee Bryson, enters this weekend’s Trans Am Series event at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario as the National Championship and Rookie of the Year points leader in the SGT division after a stunning performance last week at Watkins Glen International. Kaylee led most of the laps on Sunday running below track record lap times battling with multi time SGT Champion Lee Saunders until running out of fuel on the last lap and finishing second. The car ran out of fuel despite starting the race with a full fuel load.
Bryson has one win (NOLA) and five podium finishes in seven Trans Am Series events so far this season. She is currently fifth in USAC Silver Crown National Championship points after finishing third at World Wide Technology Raceway earlier in the month and her historic win at the Belleville (KS) Highbanks in May.
