Indianapolis USA In a stunning display of courage and race craft well beyond her Trans Am Series rookie status, Kaylee Bryson took advantage of a late race restart to pass seven cars on the final two laps and advance from third position to win the penultimate race of the 2024 Trans Am Series season at Virginia International Raceway on Sunday, October 6th. In doing so, she clinched the 2024 Trans Am SGT National Series Championship and Rookie of the Year honors.
“You know, it's my first time at VIR, and I definitely rank this one at the top of my list,” said Bryson. “That was the race of my life right there, I never gave up. We started third and really, really had to chase down the guys. I think once we got the fuel load off, the car really came to life at the end. I can't thank my fellow competitors enough for racing me clean. We were side by side and never touching, having to run qualifying laps every single lap, and that was really awesome. It's cool to be a champion in this series. This whole LSI, Logical Systems Inc. team does so much to make this possible. Thank you to Sam Pierce Chevrolet, AP Driver Development, RE Enterprises. There are so many people who make this Corvette fast, and I can't thank them enough.”
The spectacular performance was her third win of the Trans Am season (NOLA, Canadian Tire Motorsports Park and VIR) and seventh podium finish. Bryson has six wins to her credit in 2024 including two in Lightning Crown competition and her historic victory in USAC Silver Crown at the Belleville High Banks in May, becoming the first woman in history to ever win a USAC National event. She has posted 15 total podiums and 19 top ten finishes in 28 events this season across all disciplines including MidgetCars.
The 22-year-old fan favorite has two remaining events on her 2024 schedule, the final 2024 USAC Silver Crown event at Lucas Oil IRP in Indy on October 19 and the November 3 season finale for Tran Am at COTA. Kaylee is currently seventh in USAC Silver Crown National points despite missing three events due to scheduling conflicts with her Trans Am commitment.
