Indianapolis USA Colton Bettis secured the 2024 Southern Sprint Car Series championship in convincing fashion Saturday Night at Auburndale (FL) Speedway by winning the final race of the year from the eleventh staring position. The fifteen-year-old hot-shoe jumped to the outside line on the drop of the green flag and blew by ten competitors to take the lead on lap 12, where he remained for the balance of the event. The win was his fourth victory of the 2024 season and seventh top ten finish in the ten-race series.
All children in attendance at the event were invited to join Colton in victory lane to celebrate with the new Champion. All of Bettis’ young fans were entered into a drawing with four lucky winners receiving new bicycles courtesy of Colton and his team.
2024 was a landmark season for the budding young superstar. In addition to the Southern Sprint Car Series Championship, Bettis also won the coveted Dave Steele Combined Sprint Car Championship and the Auburndale Speedway Late Model Series Championship. He also posted two top ten, and a runner-up finish, along with a pole position in 410 national Sprint Car competition in Aaron Pierce’s AP Driver Development #26 Sam Pierce Chevy Sprint Car over the summer.
Bettis will move up to USAC Silver Crown competition for the 2025 season, joining Sam Pierce Racing teammate and 2024 Trans Am SGT Series Champion, Kaylee Byson in the #126 AP Driver Development / Sam Pierce Chevy pavement Champ Car. He will also return to the 410 pavement Sprint Car for select wing and non-winged events in the Midwest, perhaps including the 77th Little 500 at Anderson (IN) Speedway in May.
