Indianapolis USA Sam Pierce Racing will field a powerhouse roster of drivers in Florida over the next two weekends supporting three of open wheel racing’s most prolific superstars as the nation’s best pavement sprint cars invade the Tampa Bay area.
Colton Bettis will campaign the Team SPR #26 AP Driver Development / SamPierceChevy.com V6-powered machine at Showtime Speedway on Friday, February 21 for the 100 lap non-wing portion of the Dave Steele Championship weekend. Bettis is the defending overall champion of the event and is slated to race select pavement USAC Silver Crown events for SPR during the 2025 season. The team is using this event as a shakedown run for their V6 car in preparation for the 2025 Little 500 at Anderson (IN) Speedway in May with Colton scheduled to make his rookie appearance in the prestigious race.
The Dave Steele Championship program continues Saturday night at Showtime with winged sprint cars running twin 35 lap events. Team SPR will be well prepared as legendary open wheel ace Kody Swanson will strap into the #26 AP Driver Development / SamPierceChevy.com 410-winged sprint car. Swanson was ranked #1 in the 2024 North American pavement sprint car driver standings and is the defending USAC Silver Crown Champion. The car is one of the winningest pavement sprint cars in history, delivering over 40 feature race wins and multiple championships for team principal Aaron Pierce. The car was last wheeled into victory lane at Indianapolis Raceway Park in June 2022 with Kody’s brother Tanner Swanson at the wheel without the wing during a 500 Sprint Car Tour event.
Bettis will run his family-owned #61 house car on Saturday in his attempt to defend his 2024 Dave Steele Championship. Bettis was ranked #5 in the 2024 North American pavement sprint car driver standings. Colton is the 2024 Auburndale (FL) Pro Late Model Champion and the 2024 Southern Sprint Car Series Champion.
2024 Trans Am SGT National Series Champion Kaylee Bryson will be at Sebring Int’l. Raceway for the February 20-23 weekend in the #02 Logical Systems Inc. Corvette. Bryson and LSI Racing have moved up to Trans Am XGT series competition for the 2025 season. She will also return to the USAC Silver Crown Series with Team SPR for 2025.
Kaylee will return to her open wheel roots for the Children’s Dream Fund weekend of pavement sprint car racing at Citrus Speedway February 28 and March 1. She will slip behind the wheel of the #26 AP Driver Development / SamPierceChevy.com 410-winged sprint car for 50 lap feature races on both Friday and Saturday.
Bettis will race his #61 for the weekend defending his first and second place finishes in last year’s twin Children’s Dream Fund 50 feature races.
